BGC- a consortium of Broadland Properties and Gilkes Energy, is pleased to identify the first three hydro projects as a result of the Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS) Development Opportunity. These three schemes will be entering the planning phase of development in the coming months, and further details on each are shown below. Each scheme will be taken forward either by Broadlands or Gilkes Energy individually.
Planning consent for the 1.7 Megawatt (MW) Ederline Hydro Project, situation on the south of Loch Awe, Argyll & Bute, has just been awarded to Gilkes Energy.
Forestry Commission Scotland has joined forces with a consortium made up of Broadland Properties and Gilbert Gilkes & Gordon Limited to explore the development of small scale hydro projects on the national forest estate.
Incentives for renewables, environmental legislation, technical developments and opportunities for international trade in hydropower were key themes at this year's annual conference of the British Hydropower Association. The two-day event took place in Glasgow, Scotland, and was attended by more than 100 delegates from the UK and overseas.
